Environmental Crisis – Secretary Chu Announced A $575 Million Dollars In Funding

Secretary Chu announced a $575 million dollars in funding that will cover 15 states projects, 22 projects that will accelerate carbon capture and storage research the development of industrials sources. The four different areas of carbon capture and storage (CCS) research and development:

1. Testing of advanced gasification technologies on a large scale

2. Lower emissions from industrial sources using advanced turbo-machinery

3. Decreased costs and efficiencies by post-combustion CO2 capture.

4. Storage site characterization (geological)

Jay Rockefeller and Secretary Chu, yesterday at the university of Charleston (West Virginia) where there to talk about the future of coal and the case for carbon capture and storage. “The case must be made for a real solution and that’s why we are here today” Sen. Rockefeller said. He also went on to address the environmental problems in China saying “People assume that China will do nothing.” Secretary Chu addressed the Environmental Crises “”Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, the CO2 in the atmosphere has increased by 40%” … “What’s the prognosis? It depends on what the world does. If we limit, it will double. If we don’t, it could quadruple.”
